Defence Services Command and Staff College celebrated the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival at the college premises on 22 April 2017, with the participation of all Officers, Other Ranks, Civilian Staff and the permanent staff and their families.
The traditional heritage and rituals were symbolised by the activities of student officers. What most impressed the crowd was the “Gamigedara” prepared by the Student Officers where the Sinhala traditional food were cooked and served to guests. Moreover, the Traditional Tea hosted by the DSCSC with the participation of Foreign Students Officers and their family members made the occasion colourful.
Tug of war, Pillow Fighting, Fancy Dress Parade, "Kanamutti Bindeema", picking up of New Year Prince and Princess and "Lime and Spoon Race'' by the elders and Placing the Eye on Elephant, Blowing Balloons and Buns Eating Competition by kids made the festival more enjoyable.
Folk songs and colourful stage presentations, performed by the Cultural Group of Ministry of Cultural affairs coupled with performances of the Sri Lanka Air force Band added glamour and colour to the event.
Maj Gen KADA Karunasekara RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, the Commandant DSCSC was the Chief Guest of this event. Mrs Dananjanie Karunasekara, the patron of Ladies’ Club of DSCSC also attended the festival as the Guest of Honour.
