Jagath Chinthaka Gamage is presently serving as the Chief Instructor of Defence Services Command and Staff College Sri Lanka. He was born on 28 January 1966 and was educated at Royal College, Colombo. He enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army on 17th March 1986. Having completed his basic military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyathalawa, he was commissioned in to the Sri Lanka Engineers on 21st February 1987.
Brigadier Chinthaka Gamage has held numerous important appointments during his military career in Command, Staff and Instructor capacities. He has commanded an Engineer troop in classic engineer role as well as in infantry role, Engineer Squadron in classic engineer role and in infantry role and Bomb Disposal Squadron (EOD Squadron). He commanded 8 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Engineers in 2005 - 2006. As a brigadier he commanded 612 Infantry Brigade.
In Staff appointments he was the ADC to General Officer Commanding, 11 Division and later to the same officer when the General was Chief of Staff in 1992. As a Captain he was Intelligence Officer in 5 Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers and served as General Staff Officer 3 of 15 Infantry Brigade, Cheddikulam. He also served as Brigade Major of 25 Infantry Brigade – Mullaitive and Staff Officer 2 (Administration), Regimental Centre Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. He also completed two short tenures as General Staff Officer 1 in 52 Infantry Division - Jaffana and 55 Infantry Division - Muhamalai. He served as Colonel Military Secretary (Military Secretary’s Branch) Army Headquarters and also as Brigadier Doctrine and Strategy Army Training Command.
As an instructor he has served at the Sri Lanka Military Academy as the Chief Instructor of Officers Study Centre in the year 2005 and as a Directing Staff at Defence Services Command and Staff College from 2007 to 2009.
Besides the courses of training he followed in Sri Lanka, he has followed military training courses in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Having attended the Army Command and Staff Course in Sri Lanka in the year 2000, he was selected to follow his second staff course at the Army Command and Staff College - Pakistan in 2002. He attended Executive Seminar on Combating Terrorism at NESA Centre USA in 2011, followed Senior Command Course in India in the same year. He followed a master’s degree programme in USA too.
Brigadier Chinthaka Gamage counts over 30 years of loyal service in the Sri Lanka Army. He has travelled to 11 countries during his service in the Army.
His interests include travelling and reading. He is a practicing Buddhist.
He is married to Dr (Mrs) Devika Gamage (Veterinary Surgeon) and blessed with one son.
