Exercise ‘Ink Blot’ is the first Counterinsurgency (COIN) exercise of the course calendar. This exercise was conducted at the college premises from 21 August to 26 August 2023, with the aim of exercising and evaluating Student Officers’ knowledge on joint planning of a COIN scenario. The exercise was designed to exercise the minds of Student Officers on the most appropriate and salient aspects during the operational level planning with reference to the deployment of land, naval and air components in a joint environment in a COIN scenario.

The exercise commenced with an integrated planning initiation and msn analysis in a joint COIN scenario by identifying each area of responsibility as a Joint Task Force. Thereafter, Student Officers from all three wings were able to present and discuss COA development, comparison and approval. Formulating a joint campaign plan brought the exercise to a grand culmination as the final outcome. Student Officers were given equal opportunities to present and discuss their products over six days with their Directing Staff, covering all operational level aspects of COIN operations.
