SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF DEFENCE HIGHER EDUCATION TRAINER COURSE

Fostering the long lasting bilateral relationship between UK and Sri Lanka, UK Defence Academy in cooperation with the Defence Services Command and Staff College deployed an Instructor team to deliver a Defence Higher Education Trainer Course for selected Directing Staff from military educational institutes including Defence Services Command and Staff College, Army School of Logistics, Trincomalee and Army War College, Buttala over the period from 15 November to 22 November 2023.

Having mirrored the mandatory pre-employment training for Directing Staff at the Defence Academy UK, this intensive and interactive training course aimed at introducing and educating on methods used by the Defence Academy of the UK to international defence training and education staff and service personnel at Post Graduate Level.  In addition, this course focused on the Academy’s use of learning techniques namely facilitation, inductive teaching and the management of Syndicate Room Discussions, offering course participants the opportunity to apply the material covered in a teaching context.

Moreover, at the request of Major General Lasantha Rodrigo, the Commandant DSCSC, an advisor was deployed to support discussions regarding review of the DSCSC syllabus in comparison with the UK Advanced command and Staff course (ACSC) and identification of potential new areas for the Sri Lankan course to include.

The Certificate Awarding Ceremony was successfully held with the participation of Major General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, the Commandant DSCSC, Deputy Commandant, Brigadier Coordinating, Colonel GS, UK Instructor Team and the course participants on 22 November 2023 at Blue Hall, DSCSC.
