The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) celebrated the Sinhala and Hindu New Year with a vibrant festival held on 04 April 2026 at the College premises, organised by the Course No 20 in accordance with the training calendar. The Sinhala and Hindu New Year, observed in April, marks the transition of the Sun from Meena Rashiya to Mesha Rashiya as per Sinhalese astrology. This significant occasion symbolizes renewal, prosperity, and the end of the harvest season, while reflecting the rich cultural traditions of Sri Lanka.
Conducted prior to the conclusion of Term One, the event saw the participation of Course Participants, Directing Staff, Permanent Staff, and their families, many of whom were dressed in traditional attire, adding colour and authenticity to the occasion.
The Commandant of DSCSC, Major General KW Jayaweera USP psc graced the event as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Mrs. Chithrani Jayaweera, President of the Ladies’ Club.
The programme included a variety of traditional games and cultural activities designed to promote interaction and camaraderie among participants. The inclusion of traditional village features such as Gami Gedera, Korale Arachchi and Gama Hamine further enriched the cultural atmosphere of the event. Both local and Foreign Course Participants actively engaged in the festivities along with their families, fostering a warm and inclusive environment.
The celebration provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen esprit de corps, enhance mutual understanding, and uphold national traditions in line with the spirit of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
