EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO MINISTRY OF DEFENCE AND ARMY HEADQUARTERS OF SRI LANKA – DSCSC19
  1. The Course Participants of the Defence Services Command and Staff College undertake visits to various establishments responsible for national security during the first term of their course curriculum. On par with that, a visit to Ministry of Defence and Army Headquarters located at Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte, Sri Lanka by the Course Participants of Course number 19 got underway on 3 March 2025. This visit presented a unique and valuable opportunity for Course Participants from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Friendly Foreign Nations.

 

  1. The objectives of the visit were to foster a deeper understanding of functions of the Ministry of Defence and Army Headquarters, to familiarize Course Participants with the various departments/statutory institutions and public corporations of the Ministry of Defence, as well as the various branches/directorates of Sri Lanka Army.

 

  1. During the visit to the Ministry of Defence, Course Participants were able to witness an insightful video on the history of the Ministry of Defence followed by a presentation on ‘Present Security Situation in Sri Lanka’. At the end, Course Participants clarified their doubts from the expert panel headed by the Chief of National Intelligence and the senior officials of the Ministry of Defence. During the visit to Army Headquarters, Course Participants witnessed the presentations conducted on pertinent topics of ‘The Importance of Modernised Infrastructure for Effective Command and Staff Functions’, ‘Functions of Network Operation Centre of Army Headquarters’ and ‘Army Organisation, Structure and Cadre Strength’. Further, Course Participants had a rare opportunity to visit the State-of-Art Operations Room of the Directorate of Operations. In concluding the day’s programme, Course Participants had opportunity to interact with Deputy Chief of Staff, some Principal Staff Officers, Director Generals and Directors of Sri Lanka Army.

 

4.         The Commandant, Chief Instructors of Army, Navy and Air wings along with faculty members too participated in this visit with the Course Participants.
