Exercise Brass Tacks, 2023 was conducted successfully at the Defence Services Command and Staff College from Monday 24 April through to Friday 28 April 2023.
The exercise is the first tactical exercise of the second term where the student officers will hone their warfighting skills across a range of operations taking the lessons and experience gained during the foundation term. Exercise Brass Tacks is a Battle Group level exercise with a focus on execution of defensive operations within Brigade/Division concept of operation.
The exercise is designed to enhance student officer’s knowledge on Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield (IPB), Estimate process and Battle procedure. The students exercised a battalion level defensive scenario and practised command and staff skills they developed in the first term.
Students of the Army wing took part in the exercise and exercise was conducted within the college premises and in general area Gampaha as a Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT).
At the end of the exercise, students attempted a mock Red Ink Correction (RIC) examination based on the exercise scenario in order to gain experience for upcoming examinations.
