DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE - SRI LANKA
To War with Wisdom and Knowledge
EXERCISE CRUCIBLE
  1. The ‘Exercise CRUCIBLE’ symbolizes the culminating joint exercise of Course 18, wherein Course Participants synthesize the knowledge acquired throughout the course to develop an Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP) within the context of Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA).
  2. This exercise took place at the Defence Services Command and Staff College from 25 to 28 November 2024, with the aim of practicing Course Participants in planning and conduct of Operations Other Than War (OOTW) when the Armed Forces called upon to provide MACA. The initial focus of the exercise was to evaluate the Course Participants understanding and application of concepts within the Military Aid to the Civil Power (MACP) framework, specifically by formulating an ICP related to MACP. The Course Participants were tasked with considering the nation’s current threat landscape and deriving appropriate Rules of Engagement to support law enforcement authorities when necessary.
  3. The second aspect of the exercise aimed to assess course participants’ knowledge of the contexts of Military Aid to the Civil Ministries (MACM) and Military Aid to the Civil Communities (MACC). Throughout the exercise, Course Participants presented their respective ICPs to the faculty in designated joint syndicate rooms, demonstrating significant commitment and enthusiasm in their approach.
