EXERCISE GOLDEN SHIELD – DSCSC 18

Exercise Golden Shield is the major joint services outdoor Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) of the course calendar of the DSCSC. The exercise was initially conducted at the College premises from 27 May to 30 May and then in the general area of Dambulla from 31 May to 02 June 2024. The exercise was designed to provide an opportunity for Course Participants to practice the decision-making process and produce written staff work.

The Exercise commenced with the mission analysis conducted at the syndicate rooms followed by the exercise planning and discussions by the Army Wing over three days, covering all the aspects of defensive operations. Planning process of independent operations of the Navy /Air Force and operations in support of the Army were also conducted within the College and the exercise area in Menikdena, Dambulla. An air reconnaissance in general area Dambulla facilitated the planning process of the Course Participants.  One Directing Staff (a Lieutenant Colonel) representing the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur, Bangladesh also attended the exercise and shared his experiences and knowledge.

The exercise provided a much needed change for the Course Participants as they were able to operate in a scenic outdoor environment amidst their busy schedule in the College. It also facilitated the Course Participants to successfully share their knowledge on respective services with the sister services. The Commandant along with the faculty directed Course Participants throughout the exercise until its successful completion. The exercise concluded with a Red Ink Correction (RIC) examination on 04 and 05 June 2024 at the College to evaluate the understanding of the Course Participants on the estimate process in the context of defensive operations.
