DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE - SRI LANKA
To War with Wisdom and Knowledge
EXERCISE MAGNUM FORCE

Exercise MAGNUM FORCE stands as a major joint-service exercise incorporated into Term Four curriculum of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) Course No. 19. The primary objective of the exercise is to critically assess the ability of Course Participants to conduct systematic analysis at the strategic level. This evaluation is conducted against current, real-world security scenarios directly affecting Sri Lanka’s national interests.

The 2025 iteration of the exercise was conducted from 28 to 31 October. During this intensive phase, Course Participants were mandated to function as inter-service ‘Think Tanks’. Their core task was to formulate comprehensive draft document for the nation’s highest-level security guidance, specifically in the domains of the ‘National Security Policy, Defence Policy and Defence Strategy’.  These deliverables aimed to establish a cohesive framework of policies and strategies for achieving Sri Lanka’s defined national security objectives.

The exercise culminated with Course Participants presenting the proposed policies and strategies to the Commandant, Faculty of the DSCSC and the entire Course, serving as a capstone review of their strategic-level synthesis and recommendations.
