The Exercise SLEDGEHAMMER is a Command Post exercise (CPX) culminated with a one-sided free-play wargame. The exercise was conducted at the Defence Services Command and Staff College from 15 September to 22 September 2025. This exercise represents a pivotal training event for Army Course Participants, in which they independently formulate and execute a comprehensive wargame scenario.
The exercise SLEDGEHAMMER aimed to practice Course Participants in planning high-intensity and semi-conventional stage counterinsurgency operations at the tactical level and organising and conducting a CPX. It plays a vital role in fostering independent operational thinking and decision-making, placing significant emphasis on the delivery of operational briefings, back-briefings, and the issuance of oral orders, as well as the efficient functioning of both Control and Player Headquarters.
The exercise culminated in a CPX that was predicated on the operational plans meticulously developed by the Course Participants. The Course Participants demonstrated considerable dedication and eagerness, notably as this marked their first exposure to managing the Control Headquarters and conducting a wargame. The effectiveness of their operational plans was rigorously evaluated during the CPX. The exercise successfully concluded with a Red Ink Correction.
