It is a long standing custom in worldwide Staff Colleges to introduce a civilian sponsor family from the host nation for each Foreign Student Officer. Upholding that tradition and being a country renowned for its great hospitality, the Defence Service Command and Staff College initiated a scheme of sponsor families from Sri Lanka for Foreign Student Officers mainly with the intention of providing a homely environment and strong relationship during their long stay in Sri Lanka.

The Inaugural Meeting of Sponsor Families for Foreign Student Officers was held at Officers’ Mess of this college on 08 May 2023.  With the assistance of members of the permanent staff and members of the faculty, recognized 16 x sponsor families with profound social status and recognised professional attributes as the college expected, participated in the event. The sponsor families were warmly welcomed by the Commandant, Major General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, and the session was decorated with a formal briefing by the Chief Instructor of the Army Wing Brigadier Subath Sanjeewa RSP psc.

This interactive session provided a great environment for the Foreign Student Officers and their families to mingle with their respective sponsor families.
