MAJOR GENERAL K W JAYAWEERA USP PSC ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE 12TH COMMANDANT OF THE DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE

Major General K W Jayaweera USP psc formally assumed duties as the 12th Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at a dignified ceremony held at the College premises on 01 January 2026. Upon arrival, the new Commandant was warmly received at the main gate by the Deputy Commandant, amidst a ceremonial Tri-Services Guard Turnout, symbolising the joint ethos and traditions upheld by the College.

The assumption of duties was marked by multi-religious observances, invoking blessings for wisdom, strength, and success in steering the College towards continued excellence in professional military education. In keeping with DSCSC tradition, the Commandant thereafter planted a sapling at Fountain Square, signifying growth, continuity, and commitment to the future.

Following the formal proceedings, the Commandant addressed the troops, expressing his appreciation for their professionalism and dedication, while reaffirming his expectations and vision for the College. This was followed by an All-Ranks Tea, which provided an opportunity for informal interaction across the Tri-Services. A group photograph was also taken to commemorate the occasion.

Subsequently, Major General K W Jayaweera USP psc addressed the Permanent Staff at White Hall, where he outlined his initial thoughts on leadership, academic excellence, and the collective responsibility of shaping future military leaders.

Thereafter, the Commandant engaged with the Faculty members, highlighting their vital role in sustaining the academic excellence of DSCSC. He emphasized the responsibility of the Faculty in mentoring and intellectually shaping future military leaders, while calling for continued academic rigour, professionalism, and collective commitment to further strengthen DSCSC as a centre of excellence in professional military education.
