MILITARY TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP BY MILITARY PROFESSIONALS OF INDIAN ARMED FORCES FOR THE DSCSC COURSE NO 17

The Military Technology Workshop (MTW) is a vital component of the academic curriculum at the Defence Services Command and Staff College Sri Lanka. As the final module of the course, it provides students with an in-depth understanding of the latest advancements in military technology and its impact on modern warfare. It is usually conducted by a team of professionals from a reputed international university. Since 2015, this Module has been annually conducted by military professionals from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Military Institute of Technology, Pune, India.

The Workshop commenced on 13 November 2023 and continued for consecutive four days with the participation of four professional guest speakers from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force who are presently serving at the Defence Services Staff College and Military Institute of Technology India.

The MTW covered a wide range of topics, including CBRN application in the present context. Modern technology in Counterinsurgency, grey zone and hybrid warfare, use of nanotechnology and implications, AI military applications and risks associated, integration of technology in professional military education, Network-Centric Warfare (NCW)/wargaming on digitized platforms, cyberwarfare, drone warfare: emerging trends and countermeasures, future trends in military aviation, modern weapons for air to surface targets and military application of space and satellite. Through lectures, students gained a comprehensive understanding of how these technologies are utilized in the field and their strategic implications for national defence. The workshop also provided students with the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the latest developments and trends, as well as network with potential partners and collaborators.

As the end of the MTW, students were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to assess and leverage the latest military technologies in their future roles as military leaders with an awareness of the development and implementation of cutting-edge defence strategies and capabilities. The members of the faculty also could refresh and widen their knowledge with the rationale of the latest developments and modern technology of the regional and global militaries. The three-day workshop successfully concluded on 16 November 2023.
