DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE - SRI LANKA
To War with Wisdom and Knowledge
THE EXERCISE UPPER CUT DSCSC -16

The first major tactical exercise of the Army Wing at the Defence Services Command and Staff College coded “Exercise Upper Cut” was conducted for the student officers of Course Number 16, from 6 to 13 May 2022.

The objective of exercise was to teach the planning process at brigade level offensive operations. Exercise Upper Cut successfully culminated with 15 hour long Red Ink correction (RIC) exam which allowed them to test their theoretical understanding on offensive operations.

Even though it was scheduled to conduct a TEWT at Narammala for student officers to verify the practicality of their plans on ground, the college had to restrict it to the syndicate room discussions due to prevailing situation in the country. However, the college authority facilitated virtual platform to understand real ground imperatives of the area of operation.

Local and foreign student officers displayed their enthusiasm throughout the exercise. A week long exercise helped create an effective learning environment for students to plan an offensive operation whilst opening their horizons on using novel technology in military planning.
