DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE - SRI LANKA
To War with Wisdom and Knowledge
THE EXERCISE UPPERCUT DSCSC – 19

‘Exercise UPPERCUT’, which is the first major tactical exercise of the Army Wing at the Defence Services Command and Staff College was conducted for the Course Participants of Course Number 19, from 5 to 14 May 2025.

The aim of the exercise is to practice Course Participants in planning of offensive operations at brigade level. Initial discussions were conducted in the syndicate rooms taking the Course Participants gradually through their planning process. The Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) at Narammala was conducted to enable Course Participants to evaluate the feasibility of their plans in the actual ground and to gain insights into the operational challenges and realities when conducting offensive operations. The exercise successfully culminated with a Red Ink Correction (RIC) which allowed Course Participants to test their theoretical understanding on offensive operations.

Local and Foreign Course Participants from the Army Wing, along with the Directing Staff, took part in the exercise, which fostered an effective learning environment and broadened Course Participants’ understanding on application of various arms on offensive operations during planning.
