A workshop on “Role of ICRC and International Humanitarian Law” was conducted by a delegation headed by Dr. Albert Schoneveld Regional Delegate – Armed and the Security Forces ICRC office Colombo, from 13 to 15 March 2023 at Maroon Hall.

During the workshop, Student Officers of the course number 17 were lectured on ICRC Role and Mandate, applicable laws to military operations, legal framework for military operations, targeting distinction, precaution and proportionality, command responsibility, roots of behavior, peacekeeping & IHL, protection of civilians, ICRC relations with ACs- guardian of IHL, urban warfare, healthcare in danger, IHL & new technologies and IHL in operational planning.

All Student Officers actively took part in the workshop and they attended few exercises to clear doubts in practical aspects as well.

The Commandant DSCSC Maj Gen BKGML Rodrigo RSP psc IG presented a memento to the delegation in appreciation of the service rendered.

2023 THE ICRC WORKSHOP ON INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW WAS CONDUCTED BY ICRC DELEGATES
