VISIT TO CENTRAL BANK, PORT CITY, COLOMBO HARBOUR AND WESTERN NAVAL COMMAND

Following the academic calendar of DSCSC Course No. 19, Course Participants embarked on a series of educational visits to prominent institutions of strategic and economic importance in Sri Lanka on March 17, 2025. The Central Bank, the Port City, Colombo Harbour, and the Western Naval Command were among the destinations.

At the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Course Participants received insightful briefings on the role of the Central Bank in maintaining the nation’s economic stability. The visit to the Port City Colombo provided an invaluable opportunity for them to grasp the potential and recent development associated with the Port City project. Further, during their exploration of Colombo Harbour, they gained firsthand knowledge of the port operations and its recent developments. This visit underscored the vital role of the maritime sector that uplifts the trade and commerce in the country.

The excursion to the Western Naval Command was an illuminating experience for the Course Participants, they were imparted with a comprehensive understanding of its strategic importance and operational functions of the command along with insights into maritime defence capabilities. Further, Course Participants got an opportunity to visit the major combatant ships, SLNS Vijayabahu, and SLNS Sindurala along with other ships and crafts stationed at the Western Naval Command.

To mark the occasion, a ceremonial exchange of plaques took place between the Commandant of DSCSC, Maj Gen HHKSS Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc and the Commander Western Naval Area, RAdm MHCJ Silva RSP^*USP NSWC psc at the Western Naval Command Headquarters. Commander Western Naval Area hosted a special lunch for esteemed delegation at Command Wardroom providing excellent opportunity to strengthen relationship, foster meaningful conversations with the officials of Western Naval Command, creating warm & welcoming at atmosphere.

This exposure has been profoundly productive and significant for Course Participants, as it enriched their understanding of diverse aspects of maritime security, economy, trade and commerce.
