Exercise CARRIER PIGEON, which is an one sided free play Command Post planning exercise, took place in the Defence Services Command and Staff College premises from  04 – 10 July. This is one of the major exercises for Army Student Officers where they were pressured for time in an operational environment.

The aim of the exercise CARRIER PIGEON was to practice Student Officers in planning divisional level defensive and offensive operations and associated ‘Land Tactical Actions’ within the doctrinal framework of manoeuvre warfare. During the exercise more emphasis was given for conducting briefings, back briefing, oral orders and effective functioning of headquarters of an infantry division and brigade.

The exercise culminated with a command post exercise based on plans produced by Student Officers, a CIMIC activities and a media conference. Student Officers displayed great enthusiasm to find solutions to a complex uncertain situations during an operation which were aliened to them. At the end of the exercise, Student Officers comprehend the importance of planning and pertinent correspondence in a simulated operational environment.
