The seminar on ‘Extremism’ for the course No 16 was conducted on 29 August 2022 with the participation of professional academics on the subject matter at the main auditorium of the Defence Services Command and Staff College.
Mr. Moulavi Murshid Munshif conducted a lecture on ‘Understanding Exploitation of Religion and Extremism from the Islamic Perspective’, while Professor Praveen Abhayaratne enriched the audience on the topic of ‘Manipulating the Narrative- Media operations of Violent Extremist Organizations’. Professor Rasheen Bappu provided his insights on ‘Multidimensional Analysis of Violent Religious Extremism & Threat to International Security’. ‘Eradicating Extremism from Lessons Learned to Recourses Required’ was the topic of Dr. George Cooke. Ms Aamina Muhsin shared her experiences on the Easter Sunday Attack Victims through story telling.
The audience was provided with an opportunity to clear their doubts through a panel discussion during the latter part of the seminar. At the conclusion, the audience was able to gain an insight on extremism from a diversified lecture panel with embracing an in-depth understanding on definitions, narratives, counter measures and means to be committed in respect to Counter Extremism.
