EXERCISE TRIDENT is an individual exercise focused on mastering the standard Naval Planning Process, for Naval Course Participants (CPs). They were evaluated through a Red Ink Correction (RIC) during the exercise. This exercise was based on real-time intelligence concerning to Trincomalee harbour. Throughout the exercise, CPs assumed the roles of operations staff, enhancing their ability to engage in logical visualisation of realistic threats. They also developed enemy Courses Of Actions (COAs) and determined the best COA for their own forces. Moreover, the exercise instilled the importance of the operational planning and decision-making processes employed in the Sri Lanka Navy, specifically through the Naval Planning Process.

EXERCISE TRIDENT took place from 1 to 5 October 2024 at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee. At the outset, CPs participated in an situation briefing conducted by the Command Operations Staff, which was followed by a detailed observation of the security arrangements in Trincomalee harbour. This included a visit to security deployment of the Naval Dockyard and a harbour reconnaissance. At the end of the exercise, the CPs successfully completed the training, augmenting their understanding of the application of the Naval Planning Process in a real-time operations scenario.
