The Defence Services Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka’s premier military training institution for mid-grade officers, conducted its inaugural biannual Directing Staff Enrichment Programme from 2 to 5 January 2025 at the White Hall, DSCSC. The programme aimed to strengthen the Directing Staff’s capacity to mentor tri-service officers for future command, staff, and instructional roles.
The Commandant, Major General HHKSS Hewage, inaugurated the event with a motivational speech, emphasising professional development, critical thinking, and strategic leadership. Designed to broaden intellectual and professional horizons, the programme featured lectures by distinguished military veterans and academics.
Major General PR Wanigasooriya (Retd) delivered insights on effective instructional methods. Rear Admiral (Retd) YN Jayarathna covered ‘Centre of Gravity Analysis,’ a key military strategy concept. Major General AP Wickramasekara (Retd) discussed practical approaches to enhancing knowledge management. Additionally, Dr. Lakshika Liyanage presented on ‘Research Methodology,’ Senior Lecturer Chandika Sampath Witharana explored ‘AI and Digital Applications for Military Instructors,’ and Mr. G Prasadh Gunasinghe discussed ‘Geo-Information Systems in Military Applications.’
The programme combined military precision with academic rigour, fostering critical thinking and enriching the participants’ knowledge. By offering timely and relevant content, it prepared the Directing Staff to effectively guide future ‘psc’ candidates in achieving excellence in military and academic fields.
