South Asian Commandants’ Conference Focuses on the Future of Military Education

Military leaders from across South Asia and the United Kingdom convened in Kathmandu, Nepal for the third South Asian Commandants’ Conference, held February 18-19, 2025. The conference, co-hosted by the UK Defence Academy and the Nepal Army Command and Staff College, explored the theme of “Professional Military Education (PME) in this decade and beyond”.

 

A delegation from Sri Lanka’s Defence Services Command and Staff College, led by Commandant Major General HHKSS Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc, participated in the event. The delegation also included Commodore Sanjeewa Premarathna, Chief Instructor of the Navy Wing, and Lieutenant Colonel Lalith Silva, Directing Staff. Major General Shantha Hewage presented on “Increasing Agility in PME” and subsequently facilitated a 40-minute roundtable discussion with attendees.

 

Representatives from Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and the United Kingdom also attended the conference.
