DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE NEW YEAR-2025

The New Year is a time to reflect on the past and joyfully welcome the future. In Sri Lanka, it is traditionally celebrated on the 13 or 14 of April, marking the transition of the sun from Meena Rashiya to Mesha Rashiya, according to Sinhalese astrology. This celestial movement signifies not only the beginning of a new year but also the end of the harvest season. The arrival of spring brings with it a vibrant array of customs, traditional games, delicious sweetmeats, and festive gatherings that highlight the rich cultural heritage of our nation.

In keeping with these cherished traditions, Course No. 19 of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) organised a New Year Festival on 05 April 2025 at the College premises. The event took place just prior to the conclusion of the 1st Term and featured the active participation of all Course Participants, Faculty Members, Permanent Staff and their families many of whom were dressed in colourful traditional attire. The festival was graced by Major General HHKSS Hewage RWP RSP USP rcds psc the Commandant of DSCSC, who attended as the Chief Guest.

The celebrations included a host of traditional games, music and dances, with the inclusion of symbolic elements such as the Gami Gedera, Korale Arachchi, and Gama Hamine that added charm and cultural flair to the event. Both local and foreign Course Participants eagerly took part in the festivities, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The occasion served as a wonderful opportunity for Course Participants and their families to build camaraderie with their peers and foster a greater sense of community among the College’s diverse participants.
