DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE - SRI LANKA
To War with Wisdom and Knowledge
EXERCISE GOLDEN SHIELD – DSCSC 19
Exercise Golden Shield, a pivotal joint services outdoor Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWT) for the DSCSC course calendar, recently concluded, providing Course Participants with hands-on experience in decision-making and staff work. The exercise, held from 27th May to 2nd June 2025, transitioned from the College premises to the general area Dambulla.
The Exercise began with the mission analysis conducted at the syndicate rooms, followed by the exercise planning and discussions by the Army Wing over three days, covering all the aspects of defensive operations and concluded by conducting a TEWT in Menikdena area, Dambulla. The Navy and Air Force components also conducted independent and supporting operations planning at the College and in the Menikdena area, Dambulla along with the Army component. An air reconnaissance of the Dambulla area further aided the Course Participants’ planning process.
Exercise Golden Shield offered a valuable change of pace for the Course Participants, allowing them to operate in an outdoor environment while fostering knowledge sharing among the different services. The Commandant and the Faculty provided guidance throughout the Exercise. The Exercise concluded with a Red Ink Correction (RIC) examination on 4th and 5th June 2025 at the College. This assessment evaluated the Course Participants’ understanding of the estimate process within the context of defensive operations.
