HIS EXCELLENCY MR ANDALIB ELIAS THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BANGLADESH TO SRI LANKA ADDRESSES THE DINERS’ CLUB AT THE DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE

On 3 October 2025, the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) hosted the Diners’ Club event for Term 3 of Course No. 19 at the Officers’ Mess. The occasion brought together the Commandant, Wing Heads, Directing Staff, permanent staff, Course Participants, and their spouses. His Excellency Mr Andalib Elias, High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, delivered a lecture entitled ‘Interdependence of Foreign and Defence Policy in Ensuring National Security’.

 

The lecture emphasised the fundamental interconnection between ‘Foreign Policy’ and ‘Defence Policy’ as essential components for safeguarding national security, with particular attention to the contemporary challenges confronting both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The High Commissioner’s address offered insightful perspectives on the inextricable relationship between ‘National Interests’ and ‘Sovereignty’, examining the extent to which sovereignty may be compromised to protect national interests. Furthermore, it highlighted the strategic role of foreign policy as an instrument to advance national interests, alongside the application of defence policy to maintain and uphold sovereignty.

 

Following the lecture, an interactive session provided participants the opportunity to engage and share their ideas with His Excellency Mr Andalib Elias. Notably, His Excellency was the first Bangladeshi High Commissioner to address a Diners’ Club event in the history of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. This event exemplified the College’s dedication to advancing high-calibre professional military education and fostering strategic discourse among its members.

 

The Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College and his spouse presented mementoes to the Guest Speaker and his spouse following the lecture in honour of his Excellency’s first visit to the College.
