COLONEL (RETD) ALLEN LETH, U.S. ARMY, ADDRESSES THE DINERS’ CLUB AT THE DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE

On 14 November 2025, the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) hosted the fourth and final Diners’ Club event of Course No. 19 at the Officers’ Mess. The occasion was presented by the Commandant along with College fraternity.

Colonel (Retired) Allen Leth, United States Army veteran and distinguished education and training subject matter expert, delivered an illuminating lecture on ‘Technology’s Impact on the Nature of Warfare with Emphasis on Artificial Intelligence’.

The lecture focused on the transformative influence of technology on the conduct of warfare, tracing its evolution from mechanised conflicts to the digital and algorithmic age. Colonel Leth emphasised how the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and autonomous systems is redefining modern command and control, intelligence analysis, targeting processes, and ethical decision – making in military operations.

Drawing from his extensive operational and academic experience, Colonel Leth highlighted the emerging challenges faced by armed forces particularly in developing nations in adapting doctrines, leadership models, and professional education to meet the demands of technology driven warfare. He emphasised the importance of fostering strategic foresight, innovation, and indigenous capacity building to remain competitive in an evolving security landscape.

Following the lecture, an interactive session provided course participants the opportunity to engage in a thought provoking dialogue with Colonel Leth, further enriching the evening’s academic discourse.

The Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College presented a memento to Colonel (Retired) Allen Leth at the conclusion of the speech, in appreciation of his presence and valuable contribution to the College’s academic programme.

The event exemplified the DSCSC’s continued commitment to promoting professional military education, strategic dialogue, and intellectual development among its members.
