DIRECTING STAFF ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME – 2026

As a renowned institution of higher military education, the Defence Services Command and Staff College places significant emphasis on the continuous enhancement and updating of its faculty’s knowledge, in alignment with the curriculum and the evolving learning requirements of course participants. In this regard, the first Directing Staff Enrichment Programme for the year 2026 was conducted from 02 to 04 January 2026 at the College. The programme comprised a carefully structured series of lectures and interactive sessions delivered by senior military officers and distinguished academics.

In his address to the Directing Staff, the Commandant, Major General KW Jayaweera, underscored the paramount importance of their role in shaping the professional development of course participants, emphasizing the need for responsibility and accountability.

The proceedings opened by the senior lecturer of University of Sri Jayawardenepura, Mrs Dileepa Endagamage conducting her lecture on research supervision and methodological guidance. Commander (ASW) WAB Sampath presented ‘Centre of Gravity Analysis’, while Dr. A H Lakmal discussed practical aspects on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in military and academic contexts. Professor Hiran Amarasekara of University of Sri Jayawardenepura explored the aspects of AI tools and use of AI for research studies.

Major General DKSK Dolage, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, elaborated on the “Be, Know, Do” leadership approach in the context of Directing Staff responsibilities and Air Vice Marshal AWE Wijesuriya (Retd) discussed practical approaches to effective communication and principles of adult learning.

The Directing Staff Enrichment Programme concluded with wing-specific academic sessions facilitated by experienced Directing Staff from the Army, Navy and Air Force. By offering timely and relevant content, the programme prepared the Directing Staff to effectively guide course participants towards achieving excellence in both military and academic fields.
