INTERNATIONAL FLAG HOISTING CEREMONY 2026: TO HONOUR THE DIGNIFIED PRESENCE OF FOREIGN COURSE PARTICIPANTS AT DSCSC, SRI LANKA

The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Sri Lanka, ceremonially hosted the International Flag Hoisting Ceremony 2026 on 27 January 2026, to honour the dignified presence of Foreign Course Participants (FCPs) from friendly foreign nations. Traditionally held at the start of the academic year, the International Flag Hoisting Ceremony formally marks the official welcoming of the Foreign Course Participants to the College, symbolizing the dedication and commitment of the College to foster bilateral defence relations with the participating countries and to underscore the global military partnership among the nations. Notably, the International Flag Hoisting Ceremony 2026 was conducted as an outdoor formal parade with the presence of all members of the Faculty and Permanent Staff together with all Foreign Course Participants and Local Course Participants, for the first time in the history of the DSCSC.

The event commenced with the hoisting of national flags by the most senior Course Participant from each foreign country, accompanied by the playing of their respective national anthems. Following this, the Commandant, Major General K W Jayaweera USP psc, Deputy Commandant and Wing Heads personally congratulated all FCPs with a handshake.

For the academic year 2026, DSCSC proudly hosts FCPs from 13 nations: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Rwanda, and Zambia. The ceremonial hoisting of each national flag symbolized unity in diversity and highlighted the collective commitment of participating nations to enhancing cooperation, camaraderie, and professional military education.
