EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO ARMY HEADQUARTERS AND NAVY HEADQUARTERS OF SRI LANKA – DSCSC COURSE NO 20

1. The Defence Services Command and Staff College course curriculum places significant emphasis on educational visits to key national security institutions during the first term. In line with the event calendar for course No 20, an educational visit to the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Navy Headquarters was conducted on 3 March 2026. The programme aimed to enhance Course Participants’ understanding of organisational structures, functions, and the importance of joint operations. It also provided valuable exposure for all tri‑Service and Foreign Course Participants on inter‑service interoperability within a joint operational environment.

2.` The visit commenced at the Navy Headquarters, where the Director General Training headed the forum which delivered an informative session on the contemporary status of the Sri Lanka Navy from an operational perspective. The programme, organised by the Director General Operations Department, featured a presentation by the Director Naval Operations, followed by an interactive question and answer session. This segment proved to be an eye opening experience, reinforcing the vital role of a Navy for an island nation.

3. The delegation then proceeded to the Army Headquarters, where they were warmly welcomed by the Director Training. The first session included three briefings conducted by the Directorate of Operations, Directorate of Intelligence and Directorate of Personnel Administration. The second session focused on the theme of ‘Functions of Sri Lanka Army Headquarters; Highlighting the Importance of Modernised Infrastructure for Effective Command and Staff Functions’. This presentation was conducted by the Directorate of Research, Concept and Development, followed by a comprehensive question and answer session led by a distinguished panel headed by the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and comprising the Director General General Staff, Master General Ordnance, Director General Research, Concept and Development, and the Director General Staff Duties. The Course Participants were also given the privilege of visiting the Army Headquarters’ Operations Room, where they received a detailed briefing, regarding the functioning of the same in different situations.

4. The Commandant, Chief Instructors of the Army, Navy, and Air Wings, along with Faculty Members, joined the Course Participants in this valuable educational engagement.
