Senior Colonel Zhou Bo, the Defence Advisor (Army), and Captain Zheng Zhaoping, the Defence Advisor (Navy) of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, were warmly received by Major General KW Jayaweera USP psc, the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), on 02 April 2026. The Brigadier Coordinating and the Chief Instructor – Air Wing were also present on the occasion.
During the interaction, the Commandant briefed the visiting delegation on the training framework, academic curriculum, and key activities of the College, highlighting its vital role in shaping professionally competent and strategically oriented officers. The visiting officers expressed their appreciation for the well-structured academic environment and the conducive setting that supports high standards of professional military education.
The visit provided an opportunity for cordial and constructive discussions aimed at further enhancing the longstanding defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and China, with particular emphasis on military education and training. During the deliberations, both parties explored avenues to expand professional military engagements, including the introduction of Directing Staff exchange programmes on a reciprocal basis between the two countries. Such initiatives were viewed as instrumental in strengthening institutional linkages, sharing best practices in professional military education, and enriching the instructional experience of both establishments. Furthermore, discussions also focused on enhancing academic collaboration, promoting mutual understanding, improving interoperability, and fostering capacity-building to meet evolving regional and global security challenges.
The visit concluded with the exchange of mementoes between the Commandant and the Defence Advisors, symbolizing the enduring friendship, mutual respect, and shared commitment towards strengthening defence cooperation between the two nations.
