DEFENCE SERVICES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE COMMEMORATES VESAK 2026 WITH A SERIES OF SPIRITUAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

Vesak, the most revered Buddhist festival, is celebrated on the full moon day of May to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of Lord Buddha. The occasion transforms the country into a tranquil and spiritually enriching landscape, inspiring acts of devotion, generosity, and goodwill among people from all walks of life.

In line with Vesak Week celebrations, the Defence Services Command and Staff College conducted the ‘Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya 2026’, a devotional songs programme, on 27 May 2026 at the College’s Maroon Hall. The event was organised by the Course Participants of DSCSC Course No 20 and was further enriched by the enthusiastic participation of their family members, who actively contributed to the programme.

The Commandant of DSCSC, Major General K W Jayaweera USP psc, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the President of the Ladies’ Club, Mrs Chithrani Jayaweera. The programme was also attended by the Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructors of the Army, Navy and Air Wings, Brigadier Coordinating, members of the faculty, permanent staff, as well as local and foreign Course Participants and their families.

Featuring melodious and meaningful devotional songs reflecting the teachings of Lord Buddha, the event encouraged reflection on compassion, wisdom, and moral living. It also highlighted the commitment of the College to preserving cultural heritage and fostering spiritual development, while upholding Buddhist traditions. The ceremony concluded with a traditional Dansala held at the College premises.

Continuing the Vesak celebrations, the College organised a Milk Rice Dansala on 30 May 2026 and a Boiled Jackfruit Dansala on 31 May 2026 for members of the local community. The event was warmly received by attendees and reflected the essence of ‘dana’ (giving), one of the fundamental virtues emphasised in Buddhist teachings.

The Dansal programmes were conducted with the participation of the Commandant and his spouse, Deputy Commandant, Brigadier Coordinating and all ranks of the College. These events not only provided an opportunity to engage in acts of generosity but also served to strengthen the bonds of harmony and cooperation between the College and the local community.
