Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, Chief of Defence Force of Maldives, past alumnus of the third DSCSC course, upon acceptance of the invitation extended by Major General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG, arrived at DSCSC on 08 February 2024 for the felicitation ceremony in appreciation of the excellence displayed in the prestigious career as an exceptional military legend who rose to the pinnacle of military career as the Chief of Defence Force of his own country.

In accordance with military traditions, a Guard Turnout took place at the School premises. Following the Guard Turn Out, the Commandant of the College Major General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP psc IG received the Chief of Defence Force of Maldives, Defence Attaché of the Republic of Maldives in Sri Lanka and the delegation in his office, whilst Ms. Aminath Dhihshana, spouse of the Chief of Defence Force of Maldives was warmly welcomed by Madam Shwendrini Rodrigo.

Making the Welcome Note, the Commandant cited the order of the induction;

“Be it known that Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, the Chief of Defence Force of the Maldives National Defence Force, in recognition of outstanding military achievements of the Maldives National Defence Force, has been inducted into the Wall of Fame of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, in testimony whereof and by the authority vested on us, we do confer on him this honour, given at the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Makola on this 8th day of February 2024”.

Afterwards, his portrait was unveiled by Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef at the “Wall of Fame” in recognition of the fame and honour bought by him to his alma mater, being the first ever international alumnus of the DSCSC Sri Lanka who reached to the highest echelon in the Armed Forces in a nation.

In his address, Lieutenant General Latheef enlightened the audience on the importance of the multi-national military educational background which provides an opportunity to engage in productive interactions and exposure to various military and cultural spheres. In addition, during his delivery, he explained how the life within the college assisted him to identify and explore his calibers and potentials, when he was attending the DSCSC Course Number 3 in the year 2009.

In view of marking the presence of the Chief Guest, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest and the gesture was reciprocally returned. Signing of the Visitor’s Book was taken place perfecting the formalities of the event. The Commandant, Deputy Commandant, Chief Instructors of the Army, Navy and Air Wings, Brigadier Coordinating, members of the faculty and the permanent staff partook the felicitation ceremony.

Familiarizing the Sri Lankan culture, a handful of varied performances were staged by Sri Lanka Army dancing troupe made the delegation thrilled and entertained in the evening.
